In the next part of our series on energy management, we will focus on the field of engineering companies. Engineering has a long-standing tradition in our country, and this history often affects the view of power engineering in engineering companies. For most of these companies, energy costs are only third in their cost structure, resulting in a partial lack of interest in this issue. The first is the cost of employees and their wages, the second is the cost of materials and the third is the cost of energy. For this reason, energy is a very often overlooked topic and an active approach to energy management is the privilege of only a small percentage of Czech engineering companies.
In engineering companies, from the perspective of energy management, we perceive as key:
- Defining the position of the company energy manager, who is in charge and responsibility of the energy management company.
- Continuous energy monitoring of all input energies and subsequent sub-measurement of partial economic centers and energy-intensive production technologies.
- Energy management is promoted to the monitored and evaluated area from the top management position of the company.
The chapter itself in engineering companies is the area of compressed air, which is widely used here. However, few companies realize how expensive the medium is. Energy efficiency in the field of compressed air begins at the design stage of the entire system. It is necessary to design distributions for minimum pressure losses, dimension the compressed air source according to the needs of the company with the possibility of power regulation, location of individual compressors with respect to the possible use of waste heat, and last but not least from the system. We also perceive as an absolute basis the installation of the maxim hour maximum controller in the case of large consumers of electricity.
